The Stack collection is a two-piece lighting, vase and candleholder collection that explores how repetitive volumes can create tension, balance and unexpected spatial relationships through stacking and displacement.
The Stack Floor Light and Stack Table Light are constructed from repeated rectangular volumes, where each shift creates new relationships between solid and void. Rather than functioning as empty space between the elements, these gaps become an essential part of the objects, transforming into sources of light, framing the surrounding space and defining the overall composition.
The repetition of identical forms creates a sense of structure and order, while their displacement introduces tension, imbalance and visual movement. The objects therefore exist between a functional object and a sculpture: constructed from simple geometric principles, but experienced through light, shadow and spatial perception.
The lights question where the object ends and its surrounding space begins. Their physical volumes define the architecture of the light, while the light reveals the spaces created by the volumes. Both Stack Lights will be launched together with FEST Amsterdam in early 2027.
Stack Table Light and Stack Floor Light are available for pre-order via www.festamsterdam.com
The shape of the stack lighting collection originates from the largest version of Reflecting bodies, hung during voodoo village festival. See shape process below!

About
Simone Smelt
Simone Smelt is a designer of sculptural objects and future-forward furniture, based in Amsterdam and a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven. Her objects exist somewhere between furniture and sculpture — tactile interventions that anchor shape through quiet tension and bold simplicity.
With a sharp eye for visual balance (or unbalance) and a deep understanding of material, form and color, Simone creates objects that appear both minimal and unapologetically expressive. Her work embraces mono-materiality, and circular design principles — not as limitations, but as poetic frameworks.
In addition to her independent practice, Simone works as creative director and designer for several leading Dutch design brands, including Studio HENK, FÉST Amsterdam, where she designs high-end design furniture collections from concept to mass production.
Simone’s work has been featured in national and international publications, including Sight Unseen, FRAME Magazine, Dezeen, Vogue, Elle Decoration, The Volkskrant, Architectenweb, Het Parool, and Stijlvol Wonen. She furthermore exhibited at o.a. the Dutch Design Week, and exhibitions across Europe.
